Podere Lochicchiolo was Born from a Dream
Breathing life back into land that had been abandoned for over twenty-five years.
With patience and dedication, we have recovered ancient olive groves, brought the fields back into cultivation, and meticulously rebuilt the stone farmhouses using only original materials.
Today, across 27 hectares between San Venanzo and Marsciano, we sustainably cultivate fodder, vegetables, fruit, and truffle-mycorrhized plants for superior summer black truffles. We also passionately manage livestock, including Italian honeybees (or Apis mellifera ligustica), prized Bardigiano horses, Amiata donkeys, and various farmyard animals.
Sustainable Agriculture and Deep Respect
Our operations are fundamentally guided by a deep respect for the land, cherished traditions, and our guests. We offer sincere hospitality, characterized by thoughtful gestures, meticulous attention to detail, and a profound, authentic bond with this extraordinary location.
The estate spans roughly 27 hectares and is situated 350 meters above sea level. Most of the property lies within the municipality of San Venanzo, with a small portion extending into the neighboring municipality of Marsciano. The farmland here had been left uncultivated and abandoned for over twenty-five years. By the time we arrived, all the potentially arable plots had reverted to a wild state. The extensive clearing and reclamation work, which took us around seven years, allowed us to recover a centuries-old olive grove and several tracts of land. Today, we cultivate these fields for forage for our horses, vegetables, fruit, and microrrhized plants for the production of summer black truffles. We were also able to locate and restore the old dry-stone walls once used to soften the slopes and make the land usable. The stones cleared from the fields were used as building material to restore one of the two farmhouses and construct the new dry-stone walls adjacent to the Agriturismo. Most of the estate is covered by a coppice woodland where you can enjoy pleasant walks along the existing trails, which are suitable for everyone. On the farm, we breed Ligurian bees, Bardigiano horses, Amiata donkeys, peacocks, and various other courtyard animals.
